All Shook Up Review

We had an absolute blast performing All Shook Up at the Putney Arts Theatre, and judging by the reception from the audience, they enjoyed watching the show as much as we enjoyed performing it!

Des Wilby, our NODA representative, came to watch on the Saturday evening - here are a few of his comments:

"Jamie Miller-Hughes brought both her acting experience, and first-hand knowledge of ‘All Shook Up’, to the roles of Director/Producer. Attention to detail was obviously stressed as the ‘end product’ was both precise and polished.  The entire show ran smoothly with no delays or distractions and the ‘full house’ witnessed a superb show."

"Barry Lattimore-Quinn took on the hugely demanding role of Chad. Barry’s dancing skills and athletic movement were perfect for this high-energy role and character.  This was a hugely challenging role but one Barry looked to be greatly enjoying.  Overall, Barry delivered an excellent performance."

"Jessica Laing gave a superb performance as Natalie/Ed.  Jessica has a fabulous singing voice, which was repeatedly demonstrated throughout the show, together with maturity, apparent ease and great humour. A fabulous, all-round performance."

"The quality of the music was excellent and the timing was spot on".

"Congratulations to everyone involved at Cygnet Players for another first-class production"

Spring Awakening NODA Review

Cygnets had a fabulous time at the Stockwell Playhouse last week, performing the stunning musical Spring Awakening to packed houses!

Judging from the audience reaction the show went down a storm - a view shared by our district NODA representative, Des Wilby, who had some lovely words to say. Here are a few snippets:

"Aimee Parnell is to be congratulated as Director for this wonderful piece of theatre. Attention to detail was precise, the movement of props during the musical numbers was effortless and the overall pace was terrific."

"All movement from the 13-person cast conveyed real emotion and truly reflected the action.  The graveside scene was moving and poignant, the various fight scenes were realistic and worrying but it was the passion, frustration and release of teenage anger that was exceptional.  Overall, the choreography was fabulous and really added to the show’s appeal.

"Veronique Piercy gave an excellent performance as Wendla demonstrating not only a fabulous singing voice but some exceptionally strong acting skills. Challenged with portraying this naïve girl, whose mother was too embarrassed to tell her the facts of life, Veronique interpreted the role beautifully and gave a believable performance."

"Matthew Wright was ideally cast as Melchior. With great stage presence, and an excellent singing voice, Matthew gave a terrific performance."

All Shook Up: Creative Team and Audition Dates

We are excited to announce the creative team and the audition dates for our September musical, ‘All Shook Up’!

Jamie Hughes (Director) is a long standing Cygnet, having performed in countless shows and currently busy being the society’s deputy chairman! Jamie directed the very successful Secret Swan Speakeasy back in September and was recently associate director for the brand new musical ‘Just Pretend’ for PLOS. (Photo credit: Paul Aylin)

Michael Searle (MD) is a Cygnets newcomer, but a very safe pair of musical hands! He has recently MD’d the PLOS panto and is currently working on ‘Funny Girl’ - we can’t wait to have him on board.

Kim Schenkelaars (Choreographer) is no stranger to the Cygnet stage, having choreographed Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in 2017 and performing in many other shows. She is currently choreographing our next musical, ‘Spring Awakening’, so has a very busy summer ahead!
