Let's Do It!

Our Spring play slot will be filled with something a little different next May. We are very happy to welcome Ian Doswell (a founder member, who also directed Godspell and Chess for us in 1998/1999) to create and direct Let’s Do It: A Tribute to Victoria Wood.

Probably best known for her 1980s comedy series Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV and for her on-screen partnership with Julie Walters, Victoria Wood created a whole host of memorable characters, sketches and songs that remain in the hearts of the nation.

Let’s Do It is a celebration of her work, that recreates some of the classic sketches from As Seen on TV, along with some of the most memorable characters from her stand-up routines. The show also pays tribute to her musical brilliance, using some of her well-known and less familiar songs.

Let’s Do It promises you an evening of laugh-out-loud memories, and even a few tears, as we remember the inimitable Victoria Wood in true Cygnet style.

Communication is key

Keeping our potential audiences informed about our upcoming productions is a crucial ingredient in the success of a show.

One of the groups of people we target are audience members who have bought on Ticketsource and selected ‘yes’ to receiving marketing communications from us.

Email marketing in Gmail is our chosen channel for keeping these customers up to date. This was pretty simple until last autumn, when Gmail became much stricter about the number of emails we could send before being frozen out of our account, or being identified as spam.

It was then our Communications Manager discovered GMass, which has a load of features we could use, but, most importantly for us, it enables us to send a show-specific email to a large number of recipients.

Thanks to GMass we can continue to send out emails to this important potential audience.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels production team

The new year may feel like a long time away, but the start of rehearsals for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, our first show of 2017, isn't... so we thought it about time we reveal the fantastic production team line up who will be leading this musical at the London Oratory School Theatre.

In the Director's chair, we welcome back the brilliant Damian Sandys, who directed Hairspray for us, earlier this year.

As Musical Director, we are looking forward to working with Kris Rawlinson - a newbie to Cygnets, but an experienced and great MD.

And finally, we are very pleased to have the fabulous Kim Schenkelaars (currently appearing in Legally Blonde) move from on-stage dancer, to putting our cast through their paces as our Choreographer.

A brilliant line up and we can't wait to get started - so keep your eyes peeled for more information on first meetings and audition dates very soon!

Cygnets win NODA Flame Award

We're very pleased to announce that Cygnet Players won the District Three Flame Award, at the 2016 annual NODA Awards ceremony on Sunday 26th June.

The Flame Award recognises 'the inspirational contribution for the pursuit of excellence in theatre', specifically citing our February 2016 production of Hairspray as an example of this.

Committee member Phoebe Fleetham (pictured here) was there at the ceremony to pick up the award on our behalf. This is the second time Cygnets have been presented with this award, previously picking it up in 2012.

A big well done and thank you to all involved with the society for helping us to keep putting on great shows that our audiences (and NODA!) love. Be it Hairspray or any of our other productions, we're proud to have such a broad, talented member base - and long may it continue. You're all fab!
