Become part of the Cygnet players family

As a society, we put on two musicals and one play each year. We’re a really mixed group of people, but we have a really open and friendly approach, always welcoming new members, and we have a really strong social aspect to the group; we have no upper age limit, but need to restrict members to 16 years or over.

We rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7.30pm), and some Sundays closer to the time of a show, at St Barnabas Church Hall in Southfields.

How much it costs

In order to keep Cygnets up and running, we ask all members for an annual fee of £35, or £30 if you pay by direct debit. That entitles you, amongst other things, to be in shows and to get discounts at our social events. A bargain – less than 60p a week to be part of Cygnets!

We also ask cast members of each show to make a modest financial contribution to the production. Shows are expensive and we ask everyone to contribute in order to make it look and sounds as professional and strong as it should. Show fees are about £90 for musicals, less for plays (there are also discounts for those in full time education or unemployed). It represents really good value when you think about how many rehearsals you’re going to get and what a professional team you will have supporting you.

Joining the society as a performer

To join the company, you’ll need to undergo a simple audition process – just a case of singing a song of your choice in front of a couple of committee members (just acting for plays), but nothing to worry about! But for any show, just come down and enjoy the first few rehearsals initially; we will organise new member auditions in due course, when everyone new is certain they want to be involved in a particular production.

Are you a musician?

We’d also love to hear from you if you’re interested in playing in the orchestra for one of our shows. Please drop us a line to and let us know what instrument you play and a bit about your experience to date.

Are you interested in helping out behind the scenes?

For every show, there are a number of vital roles that need to be fulfilled, from producer, to costumes to stage manager and backstage crew. As well as on stage performers, we’re really interested in hearing from you if you’d like to get involved with the society in an off stage capacity.
