Laura Harrison - Socials

Laura first joined Cygnets back in 2012 when she played Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest. After a seven year gap (!), she then returned to the society to perform the multiple roles of Adult Woman in the wonderful 2019 production of Spring Awakening (to this day one of the highlights of her life!). She’s since pushed herself further out of her comfort zone tackling the challenge of one of the online Talking Heads monologues in An Ordinary Woman.

During the day, Laura is an Events Director, specialising in organising conferences, exhibitions, virtual events, and everything in between!. So the opportunity to spend part of her free time organising socials and events for Cygnets really plays into her skillset. Laura has been on committee for two years now, although ironically only managed two in-person events during that time before the pandemic locked us all in our homes… So she turned my hand to virtual events! As well as being a great challenge to take on, pulling together online socials, such as the virtual Escape Room and The Masked Cygnet, has been incredibly rewarding, and Laura has enjoyed her role in putting on enjoyable experiences for our members.

Rosie Orchard - Secretary

When not treading the boards of the stage or playing reeds in the pit band, Rosie can be found teaching biology at St Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith. Rosie joined Cygnets in 2014 when she played Essie in Parade. Since then she has gone on to be in the cast of Let’s Do It, Legally Blonde and Kiss Me Kate with Cygnets, as well as several shows with WLOS, PLOS and Mayhem. Rosie joined the Cygnets committee in 2019 as Secretary, and can be relied on to write copious minutes and sprawling spreadsheets. Despite joining just as a pandemic was about to hit, Rosie has enjoyed working with everyone on the committee to make the best of the situation, and is particularly proud of her quiz night Zoom-host and marking skills – she will find any opportunity to bring school to Cygnets! Beyond Cygnets and the classroom, Rosie enjoys singing with the Holst Singers, baking and playing the piano.

Tom Cane

Tom moved to London after university and was on the lookout for a local group to continue his acting and musical theatre hobby. After going to see the Cygnets production of Wedding Singer, he knew he’d found the right group. He auditioned for their next show, City of Angels (2011), and hasn’t looked back – not only did he meet a host of new friends, but eventually married one of his backing singers! Since then, he has performed, directed and played in pit bands, as well as being a regular at social events. In 2019, he joined the Committee as Marketing Officer and took over as Chair in the middle of the Covid Pandemic. In real life, Tom is a Data Scientist in a fintech company.

Tara Rogerson

Tara has loved being on stage doing everything from ballet to musical theatre since the age of 3 in Switzerland, where she grew up. She went on to co-found her own performing arts society while studying History of Art at Leeds University and enjoyed joining numerous committees during her time there! Now that Tara has moved to London to work for Sotheby’s and has thrown herself into yet more am dram, it only seemed fitting to join the Cygnets committee after having such a great time as a featured dancer in their 2022 production of Big Fish!

Phoebe Fleetham

Phoebe joined Cygnets for Witches of Eastwick back in 2015 and very quickly got talked into joining the committee. After a busy few years appearing on stage more times than she can count, directing Cygnets’ first Shakespeare play and taking on Kiss me Kate, she took a a break from the committee to focus on her costume business. During the pandemic and many lockdowns, Phoebe took swamdram online, establishing Playing around Players and hosting weekly play readings as well as 3 musicals!  Now, after having her lovely baby girl, she’s delighted to be back on the committee once again!

Kim Schenkelaars

Kim has been a member of Cygnet Players since 2015 where she joined for the 2016 production of Hairspray. Since then she’s performed in several other musicals as well as choreographing for the society on shows such as Spring Awakening, All Shook Up and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Kim was previously on the committee for 2 years before a break pre-pandemic – she’s delighted to be back to help out once again!

Nicola Cane

Nicola’s first show with Cygnets was back in 2011 for their production of “City of Angels”, as one of the Angel City Four. Auditioning turned out to be one of her best decisions yet – not only did she have a ball, but she also met her now husband! Since then, she’s been in various Cygnets shows and projects, including Parade and Footloose. More recently, Nicola tried her hand at virtually performing one of the Talking Heads monologues, a perfect project for maternity leave and lockdown madness.

She joined the committee in late 2021, after being inspired by their creativity and positivity for members during the numerous lockdowns. She hopes it’ll be a welcome break from her day job as a solicitor, and looking after an exuberant toddler!
