Nicola’s first show with Cygnets was back in 2011 for their production of “City of Angels”, as one of the Angel City Four. Auditioning turned out to be one of her best decisions yet – not only did she have a ball, but she also met her now husband! Since then, she’s been in various Cygnets shows and projects, including Parade and Footloose. More recently, Nicola tried her hand at virtually performing one of the Talking Heads monologues, a perfect project for maternity leave and lockdown madness.
She joined the committee in late 2021, after being inspired by their creativity and positivity for members during the numerous lockdowns. She hopes it’ll be a welcome break from her day job as a solicitor, and looking after an exuberant toddler!
Georgina joined the ‘swamdram’ family in 2018 and has since taken part in 7 productions across SW London societies. Georgina joined the Cygnets committee during Lockdown and enjoyed thinking up ideas of how to keep members entertained and involved in an online capacity. The reason Georgina joined the committee is because she wanted to give back to new members the welcome she received when joining Cygnets in Kiss Me Kate. Now teaching drama in the suburbs, Georgina is excited to be living a life of drama and hopefully creating some actors for the future.
Natalie joined as a member of Cygnets back in 2011 to perform in the society’s version of The Wedding Singer. Since then, she has appeared in various musicals and plays with the society, including City of Angels, The Graduate, Alfie and lockdowns successful series of Talking Heads monologues. As performing ramped up again, and with a soft spot for Cygnet Players, Natalie joined the committee in late 2021 to lead the social media marketing for Kinky Boots in Feb 2022. She is also helping support Cygnets Diversity & inclusion commitment and outreach program to open up membership to new talent in the SW London area. When not busy with shows and am-dram socials, Natalie is an independent social media and digital strategist and a keen photographer.
Russell joined Cygnets in 2013 for their production of Beauty and the Beast, in which he got to hone his stage combat skills as ‘Stunt Beast’. Since then he has performed in numerous Cygnets musicals, including Parade, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Shrek, and has also performed in a number of their plays. He was keen to join the committee to see the behind the scenes decision making involved, and has managed the Cygnets website since 2014. Aside from performing, Russell also enjoys actively helping out backstage, including as a member of the crew for a number of shows, and as Stage Manager for the production of All Shook Up. By day Russell works in tenancy dispute resolution.
Laura first joined Cygnets back in 2012 when she played Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest. After a seven year gap (!), she then returned to the society to perform the multiple roles of Adult Woman in the wonderful 2019 production of Spring Awakening (to this day one of the highlights of her life!). She’s since pushed herself further out of her comfort zone tackling the challenge of one of the online Talking Heads monologues in An Ordinary Woman.
During the day, Laura is an Events Director, specialising in organising conferences, exhibitions, virtual events, and everything in between!. So the opportunity to spend part of her free time organising socials and events for Cygnets really plays into her skillset. Laura has been on committee for two years now, although ironically only managed two in-person events during that time before the pandemic locked us all in our homes… So she turned my hand to virtual events! As well as being a great challenge to take on, pulling together online socials, such as the virtual Escape Room and The Masked Cygnet, has been incredibly rewarding, and Laura has enjoyed her role in putting on enjoyable experiences for our members.
Deborah joined Cygnets back in 2013 as a maid/reporter/cloud in ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’. One year, three shows and a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe later, she was drafted onto committee as social secretary and has never left! She moved over to social media in 2017, then shifted to mainly focussing on communications in 2020. A stalwart of the ensemble, Deb has been somewhat prolific on the SWamdram scene over the past few years, having been involved in over 20 shows. Some of her favourite Cygnet appearances have been as a sugar bowl in ‘Beauty and the Beast’, Kate in ‘Legally Blonde’ and Mama Ogre/Mama Bear in ‘Shrek’. Deb originally hails from Liverpool and in her everyday life is Director of Science at a local secondary school, where she spends her time attempting to inspire the young physicists of tomorrow and sometimes choreographing school productions. She also has a YouTube channel and occasionally dabbles in writing educational resources.
When not treading the boards of the stage or playing reeds in the pit band, Rosie can be found teaching biology at St Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith. Rosie joined Cygnets in 2014 when she played Essie in Parade. Since then she has gone on to be in the cast of Let’s Do It, Legally Blonde and Kiss Me Kate with Cygnets, as well as several shoes with WLOS, PLOS and Mayhem. Rosie joined the Cygnets committee in 2019 as Secretary, and can be relied on to write copious minutes and sprawling spreadsheets. Despite joining just as a pandemic was about to hit, Rosie has enjoyed working with everyone on the committee to make the best of the situation, and is particularly proud of her quiz night Zoom-host and marking skills – she will find any opportunity to bring school to Cygnets! Beyond Cygnets and the classroom, Rosie enjoys singing with the Holst Singers, baking and playing the piano.
Tom moved to London after university and was on the lookout for a local group to continue his acting and musical theatre hobby. After going to see the Cygnets production of Wedding Singer, he knew he’d found the right group. He auditioned for their next show, City of Angels (2011), and hasn’t looked back – not only did he meet a host of new friends, but eventually married one of his backing singers! Since then, he has performed, directed and played in pit bands, as well as being a regular at social events. In 2019, he joined the Committee as Marketing Officer and took over as Chair in the middle of the Covid Pandemic. In real life, Tom is a Data Scientist in a fintech company.
