Radium Girls
SYNOPSIS
Cygnet Players are excited to be bringing Radium Girls to the stage, performing from Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th May 2024 at St. Barnabas Church, Southfields.
In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage, until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease…
Inspired by real events, Radium Girls is a gripping drama that follows the story of female workers who were poisoned and killed by the radium-based paint they used to make watch faces glow. Radium Girls examines the commercialisation of science, the pursuit of health and wealth, the power of the underdog, and the fierce injustice that labourers faced, and continue to face in parts of the world today.
